Don't get back from the cruise until the following weekend. 08:19 <@Dagmar> Synx_: I think with the word "Cisco" being involved and it being $28 instead of $280 that no, they really are selling a mere gigabit GBIC 08:19 <@Dagmar> The images show a label that reads 1000base-T as well 08:19 <@Dagmar> Unless you need a long run of a custom length, cheaper to buy a cable with transcievers on both ends 08:43 < Evilpig> i'm nearly to the end of lisa frankenstein, wtf did I just watch? https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/993784 08:43 < PigBot> Lisa Frankenstein (2024) — The Movie Database (TMDB) (at www.themoviedb.org) http://tinyurl.com/27owgz87 08:47 <@Mirage> Synx_: I've had good luck w/ the 10GTek 10GbE GBICs. The only issue I've really run into w/ Fibre and/or DAC is that sometimes if you're hot-plugging modules the MikroTik switch fails to detect/negotiate properly. Most of the time you can just pull and reseat a couple times. I've only had one instance where the switch got so phreaked out that I had to reboot it in order to get a port working. 09:51 < Synx_> i ended up picking up a used 10G base-t dual nic, now i just need to come up with a solution to test through put on this thing since i dont have anything other than 1Gbe in my rack right now lol 09:57 < Synx_> So, i was on a workshop last Friday for Amazon Q and it was demoed as a replacement for CodeWhisperer and its quite impressive. All these gen ai tools are really starting to up my programming game lol. I'm using Google Gemini right now to stub out a Golang app for a project I'm working on. 10:23 <@Dagmar> Mirage: That news article is part of the reason I'm not really worrying about what I've got to do tomorrow 10:23 <@Dagmar> MIrage: Going to M'boro to help the stepson get the last of his stuff out of an apartment there, and one of the M'boro gutterpunks has been making a thing out of making threats to the stepson 10:23 <@Dagmar> Mirage: That little twat might show up to start stuff. I will not show mercy. 10:24 <@Dagmar> So, if you hear a thing in the news about "Older millenial beats a punk band into a paste" in the news tomorrow, that's going to be me 10:25 <@Dagmar> There's some stuff I'm not going to say here, but the kid and his boyfriend absolutely deserve a beating 10:38 <@Mirage> Some jackass project manager type hits me up asking if I got the inviteS for tomorrow for this new customer kickoff. I told him I'd gotten AN invite. He says there should be 3 and will forward them to me. A few minutes later he asks if I got them. I said yes. Then he asks if I will be attending said meetings. I told him to NEVER ask me that question again. He gets minorly butt-hurt, then proceeds 10:38 <@Mirage> to send me a link to a file from the 'Team' for this new customer in teams, which I was one of the people who worked on drafting in the first place. I think at this point his goal for today is to completely piss me off. 10:39 <@Mirage> Oh.. for confirmation that I had the right 3 meetings he also wanted a screen of my calendar for verification/validation. 10:40 <@Dagmar> Uhh no. 10:40 <@Dagmar> I'd flat out say "That's insulting" 10:40 <@Dagmar> If that guy can't keep his meetings straight, that's on him 10:44 <@Mirage> The only meetings I skip (during work hours) are the ones that I know there's no point in me wasting my time in attending. It kills me how some of these guys feel the need to invite everyone to a meeting that might need 2-3 people in it. I've already told several of these guys that A) I don't want to be invited to useless crap that doesn't partain to me in the least, and B) Me responding to an invite as 10:44 <@Mirage> 'tentative' means exactly that. 10:47 <@Mirage> This customer coming on is going to be *fun*. I think I posted it before, but here's the OS breakdown we were given: https://i.postimg.cc/PqrnLkW1/VMs-By-OS.png 10:47 < PigBot> VMs By OS — Postimages (at i.postimg.cc) http://tinyurl.com/22dkd99e 11:52 <@Mirage> Heh, I'd told one of the other guys about the project mgr dude earlier. He just hit me up and said dude tried to hit him up via teams, so he just ignored the PM. =) 11:53 <@Dagmar> We've got people who make me think I should start putting my project manager hat on more often 11:54 <@Dagmar> Like, I literally asked this one group of people if we could just do a meeting to fix all their VPN tunnels in one go, told them my availability is pretty much "all the time"... 11:55 <@Dagmar> Two weeks later the last I heard of them 10 days ago was them asking two more of our people about their availability and then this morning they're upset because it's not all working yet 11:55 <@Dagmar> Like, jesus guys all you had to do was pick a fuckin' time and I would fix it 11:56 <@Dagmar> I couldn't see if the other people had some kind of scheduling conflict but from now on, the rule with this group is THREE DAYS 11:56 <@Dagmar> Anything goes out of my sight for longer than that and I'm going to start annoying people about the status 11:57 <@Dagmar> This group also dropped a VPN problem on us this morning that was slightly senseless and then a few hours later comes back saying it's fixed 11:57 <@Dagmar> We did nothing 11:58 <@Dagmar> Another group yesterday was reporing that a file transfer would sometimes not happen over the VPN 11:58 <@Dagmar> I look, the IP address they are talking about *now* does not match the one they told me it was when I set the stuff up 11:59 <@Dagmar> I'm like, "So, if it's actually intermittent then I would have *grave* concerns about where it's ssending that data, guys" 12:45 <@Mirage> Thought this new place might be something to try...then I saw this: "The restaurant’s menu includes four options of chicken tenders, sliders or a combination of both with a variety of side options, including fries, kale slaw, and macaroni and cheese." 12:45 <@Mirage> Kale Slaw... Um, no...enjoy the hipsters 12:47 <@Mirage> Wife says she likes Torchy's. If you'd bought in, it would have tanked 12:54 < aestetix> that is true 12:54 < aestetix> in fact 12:55 < aestetix> I recall in 2011, downloading some mining software and trying it out to see if I could mine something 12:55 < aestetix> but my shitty computer was not powerful enough, and I kinda gave up 12:55 <@Dagmar> We decided it would be more fun to donate our CPU time to hunting for stupid old aliens 12:55 <@Dagmar> Not even kidding 12:55 < aestetix> I recall that the thing said it would take like a month for my little laptop to mine a bitcoin 12:55 < aestetix> and I said "fuck that" 12:58 < aestetix> I mean it didn't help that all the people involved in bitcoin at that time were arrogant assholes 12:58 < aestetix> I guess some things don't change 13:00 < aestetix> Evilpig: it could be worse. You could have wound up with what'shername.... who infested se2600 for a while 13:00 < aestetix> the fake lawyer 13:02 <@Mirage> Wasn't her name something like Alicia? Am i supposed to plug in both, or just one? 13:08 < Evilpig> Synx_: pretty sure if you have the connector on your power supply, use it 13:09 < Evilpig> often that extra 8 pin connector would be supplemental power for things like m2 connectors, etc 13:09 < Synx_> k both it is then 13:09 < Synx_> ya i wasn't sure because 12v only is now becoming a thing so didn't know if they abandon the old 24pin connector 13:11 < Synx_> that makes sense, thanks Evilpig 13:48 <@Dagmar> You may or may not have such a matching connector on your motherboard for supplemental PCI power. 13:48 <@Dagmar> If your motherboard has one and your GPU has one, your PSU had better have _two_ 13:49 <@Dagmar> Basically, empty power sockets are bad 13:49 <@Dagmar> The only thing worse is plugging them in sideways or something 13:49 <@Dagmar> (which would be VERY bad) 14:07 -!- opticron [~opticron@136.53.157.170] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer] 14:13 -!- opticron [~opticron@136.53.157.170] has joined #se2600 14:13 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o opticron] by ChanServ 14:44 < Synx_> haha ya i've miss keyed a few things in my life, never pleasant 14:52 < Synx_> this sales kickoff i am watching right now is vomit inducing 15:05 <@Dagmar> DIG CTANNUA 15:06 <@Dagmar> Damn shift lock 15:47 < Synx_> wtf is this s for permissions drwxrwsr-x 15:48 < Evilpig> stickybit 15:49 < Synx_> how does that work for a directory 15:49 < Synx_> im googling btw so feel free to tell me to rtfm 15:49 < Evilpig> it's the setgid bit I tink. the permission string is 2775 ? 15:50 < Evilpig> I had a nice calculator bookmarked once upon a time but I can't find it now 15:50 < Evilpig> http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/script2/chmodcal2.shtml 15:50 < PigBot> Cut & Paste 4-digit Chmod Calculator (at www.javascriptkit.com) http://tinyurl.com/7omk9h7 15:50 < Evilpig> try that 15:50 < Synx_> ya 2770 15:52 < Evilpig> https://wintelguy.com/permissions-calc.pl 15:52 < PigBot> Unix Permissions Calculator - WintelGuy.com (at wintelguy.com) http://tinyurl.com/y5mf8wyb 15:52 < Evilpig> I did have it bookmarked, I just didn't scroll down enough 15:52 < Synx_> thank you 15:53 < Evilpig> iirc setting the sticky bits sets the default permissions for new files? dagmar will correct me when he sees this in a bit and gets pissy at my misinformation 15:53 < Evilpig> or owner 15:54 < Evilpig> I'm gonna go make an indention on the couch and try to turn my brain off. been wanting to call my former sister in law all afternoon and the compulsion may win if I dont' get my brain on a different track 15:54 < Evilpig> and by call, I mean call to insult 16:06 < Synx_> haha 16:07 < Synx_> wtf, i ordered a used rtx 3060 ti from ebay much cheaper than other options, it just arrived in the original with the evga seal stickers still intact so unopened 16:08 < Synx_> oh never mind im a dumb ass, its got tape over one of them 16:41 < Synx_> Evilpig, how do you manage your bookmarks, i've completely given up on mine its a mess 16:48 < Evilpig> well..
