If you get below that, then it's time to replace them 13:33 < Evilpig> the bearings on that I would bet haven't been lubed properly. the dude I got the truck from did some half ass repairs so I bet he did his own rotations and didn't bother when he put the oilers back on 13:33 <@Dagmar> If they're still that thick and the only thing out of spec is a minor groove then fuck it 13:33 < aestetix> huh 13:33 < aestetix> why is there a new Beetlejuice movie coming out 13:34 < Evilpig> because the musical got alot of press 13:34 < aestetix> I didn't know there was a musical 13:34 <@Dagmar> "Turning" rotors (which amounts to sanding the fuckers) is also a thing but places don't like to do it because the profit in installing a brand new rotor is way higher htan something that requires equipment and half a man hour 13:34 < aestetix> then again Tim Burton IMHO has kind of fallen from grace 13:34 <@Dagmar> Evilpig: Because apparently it's a powerful aphrodesiac to GOP senators 13:34 < Evilpig> that's all on the vape 13:35 < Evilpig> we don't know what was in that thing 13:35 <@Dagmar> Probably her own farts 13:35 < Evilpig> lol 13:37 <@Dagmar> SEriously tho... MOst places will try to convince everyone they need new rotors the second they get to a repair where the tire has to come off 13:37 <@Dagmar> Usually it's bullshit 13:38 <@Dagmar> ...and it's bullshit you can verify with your eyeballs and fingers in like three minutes. Ten if you take the tire off to get a really good lok 13:39 <@Dagmar> They'd probably be suggesting replacing rims becasue of "micro-fractures" if rims were a wear component 13:39 <@Dagmar> Then again, tire spoons are a motherfucker sometimes 13:49 <@Mirage> If there's no gravelly noises and/or play in the wheels then you don't need bearings either. 13:51 < Evilpig> there was gravel 13:51 < Evilpig> heard it yesterday morning and knew something was up 13:51 <@Mirage> Of course if the place is disreputable and have already been looking at the it, all they have to do is loosen the nut a bit and it'll look like a bunch of slop from the bearing when all they did is take off the pre-load 13:56 <@Dagmar> You get clicking when moving the car after having turned the wheel all the way to one side or the other? 14:18 < Evilpig> not that i've noticed but I have heard some growling like I need to check the power steering fluid and I keep forgetting 14:18 <@Dagmar> Yeah growling would be the power steering struggling, particularlyt when the wheel is turned hard 14:19 <@Dagmar> A clicking sound roughly once per rotation means you've got a bearing issue 14:19 <@Dagmar> Thankfully power steering fluid problems only require more power steering fluid, and absolutely fuck all happens if you drive the car several thousand miles without any in there 14:23 <@Mirage> Depends on the problem and vehicle. Also a big difference between a rack and a box. 14:27 <@Mirage> w00t. FedEx delivered the new rear leaf springs for my pickup. 14:46 <@Dagmar> This ain't the 1940's 15:51 < Evilpig> truck is happy again. 16:36 -!- Synx_1 [~Synx_@47.150.158.19] has joined #se2600 16:36 -!- Synx_ [~Synx_@172.56.184.130] has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds] 16:36 -!- Synx_1 is now known as Synx_ 17:29 <@Mirage> Mine's part-way happy. Replaced the rear passenger leaf w/o much problem (other than the gas tank being in the way). Driver side the sleeve in the bushing is fused to the mounting pin and refuses to come off. At least I didn't tear it up trying to get it off, so I was able to put the old one back on until I can get a new pin. --- Log closed Sat Nov 11 00:00:42 2023
