Why force the Chinese to pay Koreans for all my data when I can just cut out the middleman? 07:09 < dasunt> Let me know what you think of the Sony, btw. I may go that route. We'll be replacing our TV soon. 07:16 * aestetix hugs Dolemite 07:28 <@Dolemite> I've got several vizio TVs but I don't use the smart tv functions on them. I use a Fire TV stick, instead. 07:29 <@Mirage> Ditto. 07:30 < Evilpig> I wish I could get a dumb tv today 07:30 <@Dolemite> The companies make more money on the data than they do on the sale of the tv 07:31 <@Dolemite> That's why Amazon had a 55" Fire TV for dirt cheap on Prime Day. Less than $200, I think. 07:31 < Evilpig> not sure what data they're gonna scrape from me using the shield 07:31 <@Dolemite> Well most users don't add a device, they just use the built-in 07:33 < Evilpig> I learned long ago that native smart devices don't get updates and make the smart functionality useless within a year or two 07:33 <@Dolemite> Well Vizio updates theirs all the time because my TV shows when it updated 07:33 < Evilpig> guess i'm still weird for looking at tv as a device Iplan on using for a decade or more 07:33 < Evilpig> my vizio hasn't been updated in a couple of years at least 07:33 <@Dolemite> Is it even connected to the internetz? 07:33 < Evilpig> it hasn't been a bad tv, but the smart support is garbage 07:33 < Evilpig> yeah 07:34 <@Dolemite> Interesting 07:34 <@Mirage> My vizio's are both old enough they stopped getting updates and there wasn't any way to add stuff to them (at the time at least), which is why I moved to using the FireTV sticks 07:34 < Evilpig> about to head out of here and take sabrina to her freshmen orientation 07:35 <@Mirage> Evilpig: just give her a compass. Should orient her just fine 07:35 < Evilpig> just can't make myself call it what they did when I started msu 07:35 <@Dolemite> STAND IN THE PLACE WHERE YOU ARE 07:36 < Evilpig> w00t, getting take wireless android auto on its first test run here. 07:37 <@Mirage> Evilpig: I should have dropped last night after Alg or Freya. I was really paying for trying to 'tough it out' once I finally threw in the towel and layed down. Didn't get to sleep until ~2a or so 07:37 <@Dolemite> It can be flaky 07:38 < Evilpig> Mirage: I was just happy to have a spot last night 07:38 <@Dolemite> A month back or so Google released a totally shit update to Android Auto that was causing it to randomly disconnect over wireless 07:39 < Evilpig> boooooo! don't dash my hopes for my new dongle 07:39 < Evilpig> i'll be back in a bit. 07:39 <@Dolemite> It seems to be better now 07:58 < dasunt> Ugh, ZWave dongles will take 2 weeks to ship to me. :( 07:59 < dasunt> I am almost tempted to do zigbee with this, but considering the range, I think zwave is the better choice. 08:20 < dasunt> So dumb question, but doesn't the Fire stick just sell your data as well? 08:20 <@Dolemite> Oh I'm sure it does, but it's already farming that info from my browsing and buying habits 08:21 <@Dolemite> Bezos gotta pay for a new rocket engine somehow 08:38 < Evilpig> I love being able to make every smart device in the house broadcast a message 08:38 < dasunt> I need a better router solution. 09:16 < Evilpig> btw this is the model I got. KD55X80K 09:18 < aestetix> nice, I just farted. Man that one felt good 12:57 <@Mirage> Anyone else not really getting into Secret Invasion? 13:00 <@Dolemite> It's finally picking up 13:00 <@Dolemite> But it has definitely dragged 13:37 -!- _NSAKEY_ [~nsa@hashcat/team/-NSAKEY] has joined #se2600 13:37 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o _NSAKEY_] by ChanServ 13:42 -!- Netsplit *.net <-> *.split quits: @_NSAKEY 14:51 <@Mirage> Thanks to my new wire-penetrating mutimeter probes I was finally able to determine that I had a bad AC Compressor relay. Local OReilley had one, so popped in to snag it. Dude looks it up and makes a comment about how expensive it is for being so small. I told him yeah, and I'll tell you why... "This is TX and we like having a working AC." 15:45 < Evilpig> new tv hung. holy shit, real black. 15:49 <@Dolemite> noice 18:01 < Evilpig> bah! can't get cec volume control to work right from the tv to the receiver. I know google tv/android can control my receiver just fine becaues the the shield does it. 18:02 < Evilpig> if I hook everything up to the tv so I can do arc and have everything turn on / off together then it isn't controlling the volume right. 18:03 < Evilpig> if I hook everything up to run via the reciever then I don't get audio from the tv unless I set up the optical link and still have to use a second remote to control the volume there 19:35 < Evilpig> sony support got me fixed, but unintentionally 19:53 < Evilpig> the issue came down to the hdmi cable somehow. even though arc was working, the hdmi cable was causing some issue with either interference or something and it wasn't getting a full connection between the receiver and the tv even though that cable worked fine for arc 22:02 <@Dagmar> Fury is _married_?
