"Supreme Court sets new limits in use of race as factor in college admissions" 10:49 <@Mirage> They planning to use it to block things like minority scholarships, which could potentially block some non-WASPs from being able to go to college? 12:04 < dasunt> I may need to do DNS failover. Ugh. 12:05 < dasunt> Shouldn't be hard, honestly, I think. But I may have to combine it with DHCP, and it's been a long time. 12:24 < dasunt> I need to think about it. 3 physical servers, all of which are used as virtual hosts, in a cluster. 12:24 < dasunt> Where do I want to put everything... 12:45 < Evilpig> under your desk 12:46 < Evilpig> with a power switch conveniently located near your knee 14:46 < dasunt> No, that's silly, I have everything in the basement that's damp and has a bunch of cobwebs. 14:46 < dasunt> Like a normal person. 14:47 < Evilpig> I thought you were better than a normal person 14:47 < Evilpig> my mistake 14:51 < dasunt> The spiders are on-site security. 15:30 < dasunt> I'm wondering how I really want to do it. Right now, I had one server, running as a virtual machine host (proxmox), with a bunch of virtual machines, including one that provided DHCP, DNS, LDAP, etc. I could spin up a virtual machine rather quickly, and connect to it, since the vhost was pointing to the DNS/DHCP/LDAP virtual machine for all those protocols. (Not ideal when the vhost went down, but it 15:30 < dasunt> worked in a lab) 15:31 < dasunt> VMs were on one network range, the hosts were on another. 15:31 < dasunt> I *could* migrate the DHCP/DNS/LDAP to the hosts. 15:32 < dasunt> DHCP could just listen to the virtual network, to avoid clobbering the DHCP on the host network. 15:32 < dasunt> IDK. 16:05 <@Mirage> I've had a physical backup dhcp/dns box sitting in the rack since shortly after I virtualized all my shit. Haven't had any issues and it's been very handy whenever I was doing the NAS migrations and such and had to take down the main dns/dhcp server. 16:06 <@Mirage> Recently migrated it from one of those Zotac mini's to a Dell 9020 I picked up at a yard sale for $10 16:09 <@Mirage> Good day to stay indoors... Temp: 100.2, HI: 114 16:10 <@Mirage> They'd originally forecast 106 for today. 16:13 <@Mirage> I think the local airport's shit is broken. Currently showing 95. Yesterday they only showed 96 as the high, but the 'official' high was 101 20:04 -!- Dagmar [1000@user/dagmarx] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 22:00 -!- Dagmar [1000@c-68-53-29-198.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 22:00 -!- Dagmar [1000@c-68-53-29-198.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has quit [Changing host] 22:00 -!- Dagmar [1000@user/dagmarx] has joined #se2600 22:01 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o Dagmar] by ChanServ 22:15 <@Dagmar> Mirage: The airport is clearly using a Republican thermometer --- Log closed Fri Jun 30 00:00:34 2023
