I would have NEVER imagined that. No wonder the last couple customers I was working with had a growing OEL footprint. 09:42 < dasunt> Oracle? 09:48 < dasunt> Never used it, wonder how good it is. 09:53 < dasunt> I'm lame for laughing at EMACS jokes in 2023, but: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urcL86UpqZc 09:53 < PigBot> Interview with an Emacs Enthusiast in 2023 [Colorized] - YouTube (at www.youtube.com) https://tinyurl.com/2c7n7a4b 11:08 -!- Mirage [~mirage@ra.thehippo.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds] 11:08 -!- Mirage [~mirage@ra.thehippo.net] has joined #se2600 11:08 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o Mirage] by ChanServ 11:41 < Evilpig> alright I have a question that I can't find a good answer on and my internal debate is uncertain as well. 11:42 < Evilpig> you're gonna use luks and encrypt something in linux. you are using lvm for your volume management because you're civiilized 11:43 < Evilpig> now. what order to you apply the layers? do you encrypt your device then do the pvcreate on the luks device or make your lvm device all the way out to the volume and the encrypt that? 11:44 < Evilpig> my gut says encrypt the final device, aka the lvm mount. it just seems like encrypting the device under the lvm layers would possibly lead to corruption 11:45 < Evilpig> and the only reason I was leaning that way was stuff like using lvm native raid or something that could muck with the underlying data 11:45 < dasunt> I say encrypt at the highest level possible. 11:46 < dasunt> My reasoning is if you encrypt the whole disk, then any corruption causes issues for everything. Encrypt the partition, and the worst that corruption does is loses the partition. 11:47 < Evilpig> so for you then encrypt at the volume level after you've made it in lvm? 11:47 < dasunt> That's what I would suggest, but I haven't used volume encryption in practice, outside of shitty vendor products. 11:47 < Evilpig> I hit a system today with this type of setup but it's even more dumb. 11:48 < dasunt> I just base everything on the principle of mininmizing damage in case of fuckups. ;) 11:48 < dasunt> Also, encryption makes the NSA cry. Please don't make the NSA cry. 11:49 < Evilpig> lvm native raid1, the pvs are /dev/nvme0n1p3 and /dev/sda so he has an entire disk in the array and a partition 11:49 < Evilpig> the whole disk is encrypted, the partition is encrypted, then lvm is stacked on top of that 11:51 < dasunt> encryp-ception! 11:51 < dasunt> I shouldn't point fingers - I'm going to have containers on a k8s cluster consisting of VMs, on top of a hypervisor. 12:11 <@Mirage> https://www.fox4news.com/news/allen-outlets-shooting-police-body-camera-video-released 12:11 < PigBot> Allen Outlets Shooting: Police body camera video shows officer confronting gunman (at www.fox4news.com) https://tinyurl.com/29mh2o7p 12:12 <@Mirage> Body Cam footage is the second vid on the page. Doesn't really show anything, but very strongly gives a case for the Allen Police to institute a PT program. 12:13 < Evilpig> that's for sure 12:15 < Evilpig> he shoots first then "drop the gun!" 12:18 <@Mirage> What he SHOULD have done is yelled, "It's coming right for us!", then opened fire. 12:21 < dasunt> This is sad, but I think I can't recall which mass shooting that was. 12:24 < dasunt> Watching the video, is this cop going to die of a heart attack before he responds? 12:34 <@Mirage> This strile anyone else as being odd? https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/clt/d/mckinney-louisville-slugger-bat/7637393653.html 12:34 < PigBot> Louisville Slugger Bat - Autographed - collectibles - by owner - sale (at dallas.craigslist.org) https://tinyurl.com/27jkou7v 12:34 <@Mirage> "Autographed by Len Roberts (President & CEO of RadioShack 1996-2006) and John Roach (Pioneer of the Personal Computer and Chairman of Tandy Corporation). It can be ink, or it can be their blood. 14:27 < Evilpig> Mirage: I think KY did quite a bit with that telco cash. they strung dark fiber throughout the state and have made it available to the local municipalities 14:40 <@Mirage> dasunt: that was a very Dagmar thing to say 16:33 -!- xray [~xray@c-73-137-91-71.hsd1.ga.comcast.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds] 17:57 -!- Synx_1 [~Synx_@47.150.143.137] has joined #se2600 17:59 -!- Synx_ [~Synx_@47.150.143.137] has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds] 17:59 -!- Synx_1 is now known as Synx_ 18:15 < Synx_> Something is fucked with my dual wan setup but I just cant figure it out. Shit was working perfectly for about 24 hours then boom no change to config and the LTE link says its gateway is down. I can unplug the LTE router and plug my laptop in and get a public IP no issue and no connection issues. Soon as it gets plugged into my Opnsense box it 18:15 < Synx_> stops working, although it is able to DHCP an IP.
