10:38 < Evilpig> I'm declaring my plex problem officially fixed and the root cause is retarded as fuck
10:38 < Evilpig> isolated the locking condition down to the media scanner and the movie library.  everytime the file scanner would run it would hit that hanging condition
10:39 < Evilpig> after digging at it there was a directory that plex can write to for "optimized" versions.  and in that there was a symlink for "mobile.versions"  pointed to "plex.versions/mobile.whatever"
10:40 < Evilpig> from the logs it looks like the scanner was iterating over the symlink and the real directory and counting the media twice, but it doesn't store it in the DB by file location instead it uses a thumbprint/md5 style ifle recognition in the db
10:41 < Evilpig> so the scanner appears to have been trying to update that unique file record for multiple locations simultaneously causing the deadlock
