Plex has a database for the software to operate that contains a mapping between the physical files and the metadata which includes descriptions, preview thumbnails, watch status, etc. as well as user rights as to what they can see on the service.  The database is about 4GB in total but consumes roughly 25GB on disk with backups.  It's nothing fancy just a sqlite3 db
