12:33 < Evilpig> 1) what kind of player are you using?  that dictates the capabilities if it can direct play or not
12:33 < Evilpig> 2) speed between you and the host server
12:34 < Evilpig> 3) what is the source video stored at?  if it's something like 35MB/s bluray source you're gonna have a hard time doing anything but transcoding
12:35 < Evilpig> If you control the server and source you can set up a transcode profile so that whenever you add new content it can pre-encode it to a specific profile that you use commonly to prevent on the fly transcoding
12:36 < Evilpig> I prefer the native clients vs using the plex web interface, they tend to have better codec support and are more likely to direct play vs transcoding

16:30 <@Mirage> Evilpig: My gaming box certainly has enough processing power as well, but for whatever reason Plex recently decided that via the web client it wants to transcode things that it should be direct played.  I think they broke something.
