The India team eamils the customer this morning asking them about a powered off vm named "dtms-dhcpdtest-2" wondering who the server owner is and whether it needs to be powered back on. 07:19 * Mirage beats head on desk 07:22 < Evilpig> lol 07:22 < Evilpig> I assume the email isn't automated in any fashion either 07:22 <@Mirage> None 07:22 <@Mirage> er. Nope 07:23 < Evilpig> tried to give them an out. haha 07:26 < Evilpig> alright. i'm out. round two of pig's taxi service for the day 07:27 < aestetix> I want a ride too 07:27 < Evilpig> took ash to work earlier, now I have to take sabrina back across town to the orthodontist 07:27 <@Mirage> Corydon doesn't come around here anymore 07:27 < aestetix> Evilpig: I guess a bike isn't an option? 07:28 <@Mirage> In Nashville?!?! HAhahahahhaHAHhasHSHaah 07:28 < Evilpig> bellevue -> gallatin -> bellevue -> south nollensville area -> bellvue 07:28 < Evilpig> aestetix: these are like 20 miles apart 07:29 < Evilpig> and a bike in nashville on most roads, even with the bike lanes, is probably someone looking to kill themself 07:29 < Evilpig> theirself? 07:29 < Evilpig> fuck it, english is dumb you figure it out 07:30 <@Dolemite> Or you'd have to be really fucking crazy, like Dagmar riding to work on a scooter in the early 2000s and planting a boot in the door of cars that got too close to him. 07:42 <@Mirage> Evilpig: And it keeps getting better... 3 more emails for servers named "-old", "-backup", "_broken", and for one in the St. Louis data center "_migrated_dallas". 07:42 <@Mirage> Actually, I should have scrolled more...there are like 15 listed as "_migrated_dallas" 07:50 <@Dagmar> Evilpig: The entire "special master" argument has been rejected by a three-judge panel, meaning Trump doesn't get one anymore 07:50 <@Dagmar> That definitely needed to happen 07:52 <@Dolemite> Wasn't the deadline for the special master to be done in early December, anyway? 07:52 <@Dagmar> Basically, the panel gave them seven days to come up with a _really_ compelling argument for that (which does not exist) and then the DOJ will resume the "rough handling" 07:52 <@Dagmar> They were just going to get extension after extension because of how many documents needed to be reviewed 09:17 <@Mirage> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K8omHO8hCg&ab_channel=OneManFiveCats 09:18 <@Mirage> ^ "Self Cleaning Litter Box MEGA TEST: Litter-Robot 4" 09:18 < PigBot> Self Cleaning Litter Box MEGA TEST: Litter-Robot 4 - YouTube (at www.youtube.com) https://tinyurl.com/2lb4sp76 09:18 <@Dolemite> I have 2 cats that shit as much as 5 09:48 < Evilpig> Dolemite: start date moving up to 12/12 09:53 < Evilpig> Dagmar: I realize that's what happened by the panel. it shouldn't have been allowed in the first place and because that dipshit did it they should put some form of formal punishment on her for it. Her career at this point is at the logical end due to the stunt and since trump-en-stein won't be getting back into power there is no hope for her to get another appointment. the one she has now needs to be stripped 11:39 <@Mirage> In a P1 call which has been going on for almost an hr and determined they needed a linux resource to look at the app/db servers for any 'general' problems during specific time frames. Hopped in, systat is setup on them, so I can easily tell them that the boxes aren't doing jack shit. They then start going into this long explanation of how these jobs in the app getting stuck in 'ready' state but not 11:39 <@Mirage> processed is a huge problem that needs to be figured out. I ask who is on from the app team and what the logs are saying.....*crickets* 11:40 <@Mirage> The guys who started this fire drill are the end users and hadn't even escalated to the team that manages the app before escalating to an all-hands p1 on the OS/Infra side of the things. 12:16 <@Dolemite> okey dokey, back from errands 12:21 <@Mirage> And now the apps guys have finally come on and are immediately saying the server is out of memory. 12:21 <@Mirage> -bash-4.2$ free -m 12:21 <@Mirage> total used free shared buff/cache available 12:21 <@Mirage> Mem: 15866 9887 644 3819 5335 1776 12:21 <@Mirage> Um, no... 12:21 <@Mirage> Swap: 20479 1932 18547 12:22 <@Dolemite> They don't know how to make their app ask for more memory, more like it. 12:33 < Evilpig> damn kids jammed a pencil into the sharpener so hard the tip of the lead broke off in a way to prevent anything else from going in and the piece of lead couldn't go any further to get ground out or wiggle free to fall out 12:34 < Evilpig> jesus, why so much swap? 12:47 <@Mirage> Evilpig: who knows.. You and I both know it certainly wasn't a *nix admin who spec'd it 12:54 < Evilpig> because any sane admin looks at that and says "wtf?" 12:55 <@Mirage> Still stuck in this meeting and thinking it might be time for some day drinking. 12:55 <@Dolemite> ++ 12:55 < Evilpig> I'm onboard that train 12:55 <@Mirage> Evilpig: it also has 12 vCPUs 12:55 < Evilpig> I had to go up to the school and pick up liam because he threw up 12:56 < Evilpig> apparently they had tried calling his father multiple times when they finally got ahold of ash, who then called me 12:56 < Evilpig> I asked the school how to get me moved to the top of the list and she told me I already am, but couldn't tell me why they called the dumbass first 12:56 < Evilpig> I'm at the top of the list because I ANSWER THE PHONE 12:56 <@Dolemite> I'm sure Baby Huey had a good excuse for not answering the phone 12:56 < Evilpig> I'm sure he's asleep 12:57 <@Dolemite> That would be his good excuse 12:57 < Evilpig> I wake up when the phone rings because i'm a normal person 13:02 <@Dolemite> freak 13:38 <@Dolemite> I don't know if I can finish out Season 1 of The Rookie Feds. 13:38 <@opticron> I didn't even start 13:39 <@opticron> I'm only watching the rookie for fillion 13:41 <@Mirage> This can be filed under "Uh, duh": https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/01/health/sleep-deficit-emotions-study-wellness/index.html 13:41 < PigBot> Poor sleep can make you prickly. Here's what to do | CNN (at www.cnn.com) https://tinyurl.com/2hfkj96g 14:20 <@Mirage> Now they are trying to say it's a networking problem because they are seeing more db_reconnect log entries on this one server than on others. They've already determined that only this one server is running the Orace SAP application that handles these job files which are getting hung. Being logical I asked the app guy if the application connection was configured for persistent or not. He has no clue and 14:20 <@Mirage> started rambling about all these other apps besides the problem one which are normally only showing 1-2 reconnect messages a day vs 16 on this one so far today 14:22 <@Mirage> I'm having to refrain from ripping into him over comparing other apps to this one when this is the one having the problems. They're all connecting to the same backend DB and multiple apps are being run in the SAP cluster. This one is the only one pinned to this one box due to the fact that files are dropped in a queue via sftp on this server. 14:24 <@Mirage> Lol... and now they're pulling in someone from the DBA team to look at the logs on the backend DB server. 14:27 <@Mirage> Nope, I was wrong. They didn't pull in someone from the DBA team to actually check the backend, they called in a reporting manager to give a status and claim that the db_reconnect is 100% the root cause...which there is nothing as of yet that they have found proving that 14:29 <@Mirage> Dolemite: yeah..no desire to watch Feds 14:42 <@Dolemite> The first two episodes had some decent crossover, but after that... meh 14:42 <@Dolemite> I do like some of the characters on the show, just not the main one 14:46 < Evilpig> she is rather grating 22:28 <@Mirage> https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-63816454 22:28 < PigBot> San Francisco to allow police 'killer robots' - BBC News (at www.bbc.com) https://tinyurl.com/2ebolt7s 23:10 <@Mirage> Evilpig: https://youtu.be/LzG-qji05Lc 23:11 < PigBot> Gnome - Wenceslas (Official Video) - YouTube (at youtu.be) https://tinyurl.com/2jdzaj3k 23:24 <@xray> For a different perspective on the San Fran Police robot issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsJYIvGpJEs 23:24 < PigBot> San Francisco’s Lethal Cop Robots - YouTube (at www.youtube.com) https://tinyurl.com/2gefjddc 23:34 <@Dagmar> Sheesh.
