--- Log opened Sat Aug 06 00:00:26 2022 01:05 <@Dagmar> Good old Ubisoft 01:05 <@Dagmar> Working hard to fail harder 01:06 <@Dagmar> They enabled 2FA on my account. Didn't apparently decide to mention this to _me_ 01:07 <@Dagmar> Now I'm watching Far Cry 6 _patch itself_ literally after just having downloaded it 01:08 <@Mirage> Of course. Why finish a game and THEN release it when you can get it to 60%, ship it, make tons of $$ to semi-complete it via patches and updates 01:10 <@Dagmar> I don't know when it became reasonable to have a game be a 30Gb download that still requires several gigabytes of more patches 01:10 <@Dagmar> ...but it gives me an idea for a _very_ sarcastic Android app 01:11 <@Dagmar> Something that gives you a EULA, a ToS, and then tells you it needs to patch. 01:12 <@Dagmar> ...and then presents a very slow progress bar that will tell you it can do it's work in the background so you can keep using your phone until it's done, provides a notification even, and then just tells you it's time for the latest patch 01:12 <@Dagmar> I'm thinking this is a very _good_ idea, actaully 01:13 <@Dagmar> I'll call it "Patch Club" 01:14 <@Dagmar> Holy fucking shit Ubi 01:14 <@Dagmar> The goddamn thing was saying "Allocating disk space" for some time... then IT STARTED DOWNLOADING 30GB AGAIN 01:16 <@Mirage> There was some game I installed a couple years ago that did something like that. I wanna say it was Skyrim. Downloaded, I selected a custom location vs default, so insteaf of using what it already pulled down it started over again. 01:17 <@Dagmar> I swear to god if that's what it's doing i'm cussing them over it on Twitter 01:26 <@Dagmar> They are _definitely_ idiots 01:26 <@Dagmar> It really is a required 33Gb download on top of a 60Gb install 01:28 <@Dagmar> At least it's not trying to put the damn thing on my C:\ volume 01:30 <@Dagmar> RAID5 over thin-provisioned LVM slices 01:31 <@Dagmar> @#$@$ 01:37 <@Dagmar> Esposito had better dance one hell of a samba on my screen or there's no way I'm paying them anymore money now 01:38 <@Dagmar> LVM only calls md anyway 01:38 <@Dagmar> @!#$@#$ 13:01 <@Mirage> Filling out a survey for this alpha test. Here's one of my responses that I think we can all agree on: "Loot boxes and/or vanity cosmetic items for cash money is one of me sore points with games and a strong reason for me to avoid such games. Any item available by these methods should also be made available for in-game money as well for anyone who wants to put in the time to be able to purchase them. 13:01 <@Mirage> While it is a revenue stream for the developers, it's also a shortcut for players and gives them nothing of accomplishment besides their ability to enter a credit card number and hit submit." 13:02 <@Mirage> Corrected my typo... s/me sore/my sore/ 15:21 < Evilpig> I'd agree with that completely 15:21 < Evilpig> btw just heard from peter 15:21 < Evilpig> apparently he's in vegas chillding before blackhat/defcon and is bored 22:36 <@Mirage> I asked for this Alpha if they had an ACTUAL bug tracker we testers could view/search in order to see what had been already posted, see what was being worked on, and see what was going to be included in upcoming patches that would need to be retested. 22:38 <@Mirage> Didn't get a response back from staff, but someone who was in Alpha1 said that they prefer for anyone/everyone to submit bug requests, duplicate or not, so that they can better guage how many people are effected by the bug. 22:39 <@Mirage> Personally I'd rather see a real bug tracker vs just a page listing some of the issues reported..and I know for a fact that I've seen trackers that have a button to click to indicate "I'm having this problem too", which would be much more easy to deal with, IMO, than sifting through a bunch of tickets and screenshots. --- Log closed Sun Aug 07 00:00:27 2022
