His objection is that in the early phases of development, stem cells from an aborted fetus were used.   He realizes that it's from 1973 but he still doesn't want to legitimize that type of research.

Dad is a retired Dr, so you'd think he would have had enough sense to have gotten it himself as soon as possible, but hadn't for whatever reason. Of course he's also never gotten a flu shot.  I've always found it extremely funny that he was a doctor but yet is terrified of getting a shot.
