It wasn't so bad back when they kept more to regions because it kind of made sense. 09:23 <@Dagmar> Becaus it's more professional, which means they need to pay more attention to flogging these kids for cash 10:54 < Evilpig> https://status.redhat.com/incidents/x3fdtdqw2l5k 10:54 < PigBot> Red Hat Status - Major Outage (at status.redhat.com) https://tinyurl.com/yzrdtb9n 11:33 < Evilpig> strap in fellas.... 11:33 < Evilpig> https://edgedns.status.akamai.com/ 11:33 < PigBot> Akamai Edge DNS and GTM Status (at edgedns.status.akamai.com) https://tinyurl.com/yfmxcfke 11:34 < Evilpig> that's bound to have some ripple 11:37 <@Dagmar> Down Detector looks like someone just announced free money in the stock market 11:55 < Mirage> how the hell did they manage this?!! https://www.newson6.com/story/60f9626b11d8920c23f36e4f/tulsa-police-search-for-driver-following-rollover-crash- 11:55 < PigBot> Tulsa Police Search For Driver Following Rollover Crash (at www.newson6.com) https://tinyurl.com/yj3qfqjm 12:02 < Mirage> heh, in this call they stated: "In infoblox we have the DHCP ranges set as /28 and you show the networks defined as /27, but that shouldn't be a problem." 12:02 * Mirage facepalm 12:11 <@Dagmar> Bah who uses broadcast traffic for anything important anyway 12:14 < Evilpig> lol 13:22 < Mirage> So far as I know in ISC-DHCP if you define a network as /28 and connect it to a network that's /27, dhcpd will ignore that network because they don't match. Or at least that's how it used to be. I haven't made that mistake in ages. 13:25 < Mirage> Ugh, I'm getting so tired of not being able to find shit w/ yum then doing a search and finding: "Oh, that was moved to PowerTools. You need to run `dnf config-manager --set-enabled powertools` to install it." 13:35 <@eryc> Mirage: i think that happens before it gets to dhcpd 13:35 < Mirage> how's that? 13:36 <@eryc> depends if the /28 is in the bottom or top of the /27 13:36 <@eryc> because the broadcast address is the last IP 13:38 <@eryc> so the broadcast for 192.168.0.0/28 is 192.168.0.15 and for /27 it's .31 13:38 <@eryc> the kernel should see that as not routeable and drop it 13:38 < Mirage> I'm saying for instance eth0 is 172.16.0.0:255.255.255.240 and dhcpd.conf has "subnet 172.16.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.224" that DHCP will not even attempt to serve to 172.16.0.0 because it doesn't get a match to the defined network. 13:39 <@eryc> i don't think the dhcp protocol from the client side sends that info 13:40 <@eryc> hm 13:40 < Mirage> who gives a shit about the client side if the server isn't even going to be listening on the network because it doesn't have a matching subnet defined 13:40 <@eryc> actually i think i'm talking about something completely different 13:40 <@eryc> dhcp doesnt know what the /xx broadcast is i think it sends to 255.255.255.255? 13:41 <@eryc> or maybe ff:ff:ff:ff:ff? 13:41 < Mirage> I presonally would expect to see "No matching interface for subnet 172.16.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.224" in the dhcp logs when you start dhcpd 13:41 <@eryc> Mirage: i see what you mean 13:45 <@Dagmar> The DHCP query and response happen to ethernet broadcast addresses, with the exception of a renewal that generally is sent unicast to the previously responding DHCP server 13:45 <@Dagmar> This is not hte same as the "/24 broadcast address" 13:54 < Mirage> On a separate note, I've gone long enough without a haircut that w/ my hair sticking out the back when I wear a hat that it looks like I have a mullet...so probably about time to get it cut. 13:55 < Mirage> only been ~6-7 months 14:02 < Evilpig> hahah.
