18:46 < Mirage> xtort-: neighbor's ex, who she had a restraining order against, showed up roid raged and started beating the crap out of her.  Cousin called the police, grabbed his handgun, then went to intervene.  Dude came at him with a baseball bat and he dropped him.  Police called it a clear case of self defense at the scene but of course seized his handgun as evidence.  About a week later they showed back up to 
18:46 < Mirage> arrest him for murder because a prosecutor decided that since he wasn't in his home (apt) and didn't have his CCP that the normal protections of having a CCP didn't apply.
18:49 < Mirage> In the trial the fact that the ex had a history of assaults and was violating a restraining order, etc were all deemed inadmissible (yes, his lawyer must have sucked or the prosecutor was good buddies with the judge).
