If I do it I'll yank the engine and replace the crank as well as all the other stuff that is much easier to get to when it's out...so gaskets, seals, bearings, timing belt, water pump, etc.  Tally for all that is $338.  Going by that and the $2k quote he got I'm guessing that either the guy was quoting him 20h at a reasonable
