The goal is to replace all of that with a single appliance later this year and then retire the original and the expansion 05:49 <@Evilpig> This is what I plan to migrate into. https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/DS3617xs it'll reuse my expansion unit and if i fill the main unit with 16s it'll keep me set for some time to come 05:49 < PigBot> DS3617xs | Synology Inc. With the ubiquity of high speed access, a lot of games have gone to creating game packs, where the section of game is loaded and cached when you come to that section. 07:40 <@Corydon76> It means that the game can take up a whole lot less space in total while you're playing it, leaving space for other games. 07:40 <@Corydon76> So your initial download is nothing more than the game engine and the first level. 08:00 <@Dolemite> World of Warcraft Classic, get it now on only 217 floppy disks! 08:12 <@Corydon76> Or "Please insert CD 4" 08:34 <@Evilpig> While the initial download might be small, saying that 50G games is uncommon isn't accurate at all. Pretty much all those games load the content to disk eventually. With the switch games over 5G are pretty rare but some of the AAA third party titles are up there in the 15 - 20g range 08:45 <@Corydon76> Yes, but the advantage is that while they may grow big eventually, you don't have to sacrifice a lot of time for a big download only to find that you don't like the game. 08:46 <@Evilpig> with gig internet the time isn't a big issue 08:47 <@Corydon76> And there is the potential for games to delete old levels if necessary to accomodate new levels 09:12 < aestetix> now we know that Evilpig has 80 TB of disk for 09:21 <@Corydon76> I just *love* it when you plan a clean transition to move a website to a new host, and someone deletes the DNS record that you're depending upon for the transition. 09:21 -!- rpifan [~rpifan@p200300d2672b8e11af99e7369432183a.dip0.t-ipconnect.de] has joined #se2600 09:23 <@Evilpig> lol 09:24 <@Evilpig> We got a response from infoblox last night on our dnssec woes. The capture we sent them plus the logs are indicating that we're getting an invalid rrsec response so all the lookups are failing to verify whether they're signed or not 09:25 <@Evilpig> so the working theory is that the retry at the root is 30 minutes, if our lovely network security clowns sinkhole a dns request that happens to coincide with a root soa refresh, they inadvertantly nuke all requests until that thing refreshes again 09:28 <@Corydon76> I take it NetSec doesn't have a fundamental understanding of the network stack. 09:28 <@Evilpig> of course not 09:40 <@Corydon76> And of course, Zafar retired long ago? 09:42 <@Corydon76> Or no, I guess he got bumped up the chain 09:53 <@Evilpig> he's somewhere up in the director level causing mayhem 11:09 <@jb7od> https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-threatens-shut-down-platforms-after-tweets-tagged-warning-2020-5 11:09 < PigBot> Trump threatens to shut down platforms after tweets get warning tag - Business Insider (at www.businessinsider.com) http://tinyurl.com/y738k8c6 11:09 < aestetix> because you know, conservatives like using the power of government to interfere with private corporations 11:10 <@jb7od> You can't be questioning these facts- his facts are the best facts. Go check Hillary's facts- you see what they're trying to do, right? 11:10 <@jb7od> smh 11:11 < aestetix> trump is sort of like if barry goldwater had late stage syphilis 11:11 <@jb7od> You know, none of these are problems I ever thought we'd have. 11:12 <@jb7od> and that theory's got legs- the late-stage thing.. not the first time it's been wondered lol. 11:13 < aestetix> well 11:13 < aestetix> I know someone who contracted syphilis, and didn't get it treated 11:13 < aestetix> because he was a fucking moron 11:13 < aestetix> the last time I saw him.... yeah he was not all there 11:13 <@jb7od> it's a thing. 11:14 < aestetix> like, it actually fucks with your brain and does stuff to you 11:14 < aestetix> he went from being the playboy all the raver girls wanted to bang to a homeless psycho with an abandoned kid 11:15 <@jb7od> absolutely- you go blind too I hear, but it really does melt your brain or something like that. A few generations ago, some family person died of it, and the stories are pretty brutal. 11:16 <@jb7od> pre-penicillin I think that was pretty much it, too- 11:23 <@jb7od> My great great grandmother DIDNT have it, so it was scandalous af. I don't know if the guy retired before or because of it, now that I think about it, but to hear them tell it, it took a good 10 years of things getting gradually stranger until he ends up in a bedshirt, in bed, all day, yelling his ass off. 11:24 <@jb7od> So no guests or visitors ever. 11:28 <@jb7od> I dunno if it was like laudinum days or what. I'm sure they kept him as lit up as whatever they had for doctors would do.
