He likes some SciFi and Fantasy, but isn't as enthusiastic about it as I am. 13:04 <@Dolemite> Ok, time for me to get out of here and go take my late lunch. 13:49 -!- sasquatc4 is now known as ezelkow1 14:20 <@oddball> dasunt: There were semi-auto pistols in '66 (the 1911, Walther p38, and Browning HiPower come to mind), but revolvers were a lot more popular than they are now. 14:36 <@oddball> I would actually venture to guess that most handguns in circulation in 66 were revolvers. 15:18 <@Mirage> dasunt: semi-auto hand guns are not new and have been readily available since ~WWII and before. As oddball stated, "revolvers were more popular"..which was mostly due to them being cheaper. 15:20 <@Mirage> Ditto with semi-auto and fully-auto rifles. (fully-auto rifles of course generally known as machine guns) 15:23 <@dasunt> Would you call a revolver a pistol? 15:25 <@oddball> That... depends on who you talk to. I know folks that feel that "pistol" specifically refers to semi-autos, but I would say that the average layman would consider a revolver a pistol. 15:26 <@Mirage> of course there are also rifles and shotguns that are technically "revolvers" 15:26 <@oddball> Mirage: There was also the precived hit in reliabilty going from revolver to semi-auto, and the tendency of gun owners to hate new tech. 15:29 <@Mirage> the M1911 was originally released in 1911 and widely used in WWII, so there were a lot of people who got really familiar with them. I'm not sure how reliable they were in general. I have heard that the Singer (as in the sewing machines) produced models issued to pilots were supposed to be the most reliable and most sought after for collectors. 15:32 <@oddball> "realiability" was one of the big reasons sighted for most police departments continued to issue revolvers until the 80's. 15:33 <@oddball> And you'll still run into people (usually old farts) who claim that a semi-auto will jam and get you killed in the streets, while a revolver will never fail. 15:35 <@Mirage> The justification for the Wichita KS Sherrifs Dept (which my roomate was a member) to carry was that they could chamber either .38 Special or .357 in the revolvers. Of course they were also required to keep their firearms loaded with silver bullets as well. Nate and, according to him, just about everyone else in the Dept kept them loaded as prescribed, then had .357 speed loaders in their belts. 15:41 <@oddball> They were told to load .38spl? 15:42 <@oddball> I knew it was common to train using the cheaper and easier to shoot .38spl, and then carry .357. 17:07 <@Mirage> yes, silver hollowpoint 17:08 <@_NSAKEY> Mirage: Silver bullets? Were they expecting to answer domestic disturbance calls at a werewolf household? 17:09 <@Mirage> My thought was always that the Sheriff had a thing for the Lone Ranger 17:09 -!- cordless_ [~cordless@96-87-219-81-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has joined #se2600 17:13 -!- cordless_ [~cordless@96-87-219-81-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds] 21:01 -!- cordless_ [~cordless@96-87-219-81-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has joined #se2600 21:06 -!- cordless_ [~cordless@96-87-219-81-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds] 21:17 -!- NotLarry_ [~NotLarry@c-68-53-123-92.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 21:17 -!- NotLarry_ [~NotLarry@c-68-53-123-92.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has quit [Client Quit] 23:39 -!- cordless_ [~cordless@96-87-219-81-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has joined #se2600 23:43 -!- cordless_ [~cordless@96-87-219-81-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds] 23:50 -!- cordless_ [~cordless@96-87-219-81-static.hfc.comcastbusiness.net] has joined #se2600 --- Log closed Sat Feb 24 00:00:56 2018
