So far, I've been... less than impressed with TDS. Largely because of the POS modem. 14:38 -!- remoford [~remo_lapt@c-68-52-35-32.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving.] 18:30 -!- remoford [~remo_lapt@c-68-52-35-32.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 20:19 <@Dagmar> *sigh* 20:19 <@Dagmar> Comcast is getting _better_ but they've still got some severe bugs in their system 20:19 <@Dagmar> I'm trying to set up the new service right now... 20:19 <@Dagmar> I have changed the contact email for my old account. It can no longer be used to login with. 20:20 <@Dagmar> Trying to set up the new account, it claims the email address is already in use. 20:20 < oddball> Oh, it appears that this modem/router does not like being in bypass mode, and will quit passing data after about 6 hours. 20:21 < oddball> Which wouldn't be that bad, if port tunneling worked *at all*. 20:21 <@Dagmar> It might be a longshot, but checking for a firmware update probably can't hurt 20:23 <@Dagmar> I just got another SB6141 20:23 <@Dagmar> God help them if they push a bad config to this one 20:24 <@Dagmar> We're starting with 75/10 service, which is kind of "meh" but about 8 times faster upstream than one gets in Goodlettesville through AT&T 20:24 <@Dagmar> Seriously, from 1.41mbps (verified multiple times) to 10mbps. 20:24 <@Dagmar> AT&T actually makes Comcast look _good_ 20:24 <@Dagmar> Oh, also about a $65/month reduction on our bill with the entire channel lineup. 20:25 <@Dagmar> ...and Comcast now (finally) has the hint about Chromecasts being more useful than trying to install or rent an expensive box to every device 20:25 < oddball> Yeah... already did that. The manufacturer doesn't release the firmware to the public, and TDS says that they automatically update the firmware. Of course, no one will tell me what the newest firmware is. 20:25 <@Dagmar> Oh the Actiontec thing 20:26 < oddball> yup 20:26 <@Dagmar> You can always hassle them about the GPL. 20:26 <@Dagmar> I'm sure you've seen in it's logs that it's _clearly_ running Linux 20:27 < oddball> pfft. I can see it now: TDS will tell me to bitch at ActionTec, and ActionTec will say "sorry, you're not a customer of ours, so we're not even having the conversation." 20:27 <@Dagmar> I gave them a little shit about that some years back when I was trying to fix something with my parent's TDS ActionTec router 20:28 <@Dagmar> ...somewhat suprisingly a few months later they were making source and stuff available 20:28 <@Dagmar> It helped that I was very clear with ActionTec that _if_ they'd made that effort, we wouldn't be having a problem... I'd be sending them a goddamn patch. 20:29 <@Dagmar> Ther'es no reason it should crash after a few hours just for pretending to be a bridge 20:30 < oddball> Oh, sorry... the modem continues to function just fine, and anything else connected to the modem is fine, just whatever is on the bypass port is fucked. 20:30 < oddball> A reboot of either their box or my router, and the problem is fixed. 20:31 <@Dagmar> Interesting 20:31 <@Dagmar> Connecting to Chat 20:31 <@Dagmar> Your wait will be approximately 4 minutes. 20:32 <@Dagmar> That was 8 minutes ago. 20:35 <@Dagmar> Our new kitty is so very sweet. 20:35 < oddball> :D 20:35 <@Dagmar> 'cept he has very strong opinions about being combed. 20:35 < oddball> heh 20:35 <@Dagmar> oddly, I can trim his little nails with no problem. 20:35 <@Dagmar> Mortie does not tolerate me trimming her claws. 20:35 <@Dagmar> ...but she looooooves being combed. 20:38 <@Dagmar> Despite both of them being almost solid black (well, Tank has some grey on his undercarriage) their personalities couldn't be more different. 20:39 <@Dagmar> This little guy loves his chin stroked, Mortie loves head scratches that are so firm I feel like I'm giving her a noogie 20:39 <@Dagmar> Also, TANK will let me pick him up and carry him around the house 20:39 <@Dagmar> Mortie? She acts like she's convinced I'm about to drop her on her face 20:40 <@Dagmar> Try and carry her more than three feet and you are looking to bleed 20:40 < oddball> heh 20:41 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o oddball] by ChanServ 20:52 <@Dagmar> finally. Got a guy with a mild hispanic accent who was able to nuke the old account 20:57 -!- TheDukh [~thedukh@2607:fcc8:ac80:d900:b4b5:e01f:8aeb:72a3] has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds] 20:58 <@oddball> heh 20:58 <@oddball> Ok, turned the bypass mode back on. Let's see if it actually stays up. 21:11 <@Dagmar> Alrighty... 21:11 <@Dagmar> My guess is that since no one's delivered the X1 unit here yet, we don't actually have cable TV. 21:11 <@Dagmar> Despite what the website was suggesting pretty sttongly, it appears we only have access to TWO FUCKING CHANNELS online 21:12 <@Dagmar> ...both of which are COUNTRY FUCKING MUSIC TELEVISION. 21:12 <@Dagmar> It's like my own personal hell, although I _can_ access a number of OnDemand features 21:12 <@Dagmar> I'm going to have a smoke before I plug in the cablemodem 21:15 <@oddball> heh 23:19 < _NSAKEY> So, this made Slashdot. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/45-000-facebook-users-leave-one-star-ratings-after-hackers-unjust-arrest/ 23:19 < PigBot> Title: 45,000 Facebook Users Leave One-Star Ratings After Hacker's Unjust Arrest (at www.bleepingcomputer.com) http://tinyurl.com/y7q2r4ch --- Log closed Mon Jul 24 00:00:53 2017
