Why the hell are you talking to me?! 08:01 < aestetix> das war nicht gut sagen 08:02 < aestetix> aber ich weise deine mutter hat eine elderberry gewesen 08:03 <@rattle> Don't bring moms into this when I'm about to meet yours. 08:03 <@rattle> Some could call that . . . strategically unwise. 08:04 < aestetix> shit you understand german? 08:06 <@rattle> No, I'm a fucking security chief at an institution that does foreign policy. If I don't have a way to get something translated ASAP, I'm probably not on my game. 08:06 <@rattle> Get worried when you see me talk back in german. 08:07 < aestetix> also the s on wise should be the sed-zed, aka ss 08:07 < aestetix> it doesn't translate correctly otherwise 08:07 < aestetix> I just ran that whole thing through google and it got it painfully worng 08:09 <@rattle> As an American who has lived overseas, I'm amused to see you taking up the inevitable hobby of learning how to best talk shit. 08:09 < aestetix> haha 08:09 < aestetix> well, I'm attempting to drop an english insult, in german, at an american 08:10 < aestetix> where/when did you live overseas? 08:11 <@rattle> Hong Kong. I used to be able to belt out a bunch of great "fuck you's" in cantonese. 08:12 <@rattle> The one that basically translated to "jump out a window and die" was my favorite. It sort of implied you wanted to watch them climb the building and do it. 08:13 < aestetix> Nice. 08:13 < aestetix> There is an entire subset of the german language that is basically insulting jews. 08:13 < aestetix> Naturally that was "retired" after 1945 08:15 < aestetix> Reminds me of when I first got here and I needed to go to the store and buy trash bags 08:15 < aestetix> I asked one of my german friends what the word for them was 08:16 < aestetix> his reply: "judenhaut" 08:21 <@rattle> Damn. 08:21 < aestetix> I am so fucking glad I looked that up before going to the store. 08:25 <@rattle> I don't have anything close to a working knowledge of any language other than English, but Spanish and German I occasionally feel like I can intrinsically understand somehow, in terms of being able to follow the flow of a discussion. I'm half Hungarian, so it sorta makes sense. 08:26 <@rattle> I'm not a lingually talented person. I tried very hard at one point to learn Mandarin and nothing clicked, ever. Very frustrating. 08:27 < aestetix> Mandarin is really fucking hard. 08:27 < aestetix> I don't mean for me. I mean on the US government language difficulty level. 08:27 < aestetix> I think it's like level 3 or 4 where 5 is the hardest 08:27 < aestetix> (french/spanish are 1, german is 2) 08:28 <@rattle> Oh, when I started trying to learn, I was all ambitious and had the goal of being able to understand Shanghainese. Total fail. 08:28 < aestetix> The slavic languages, including hungarian, polish, czech, and others... are all clusterfucks in their own ways 08:28 < aestetix> I have a friend who speaks fluent hungarian and cannot understand polish at all 08:29 < aestetix> I'm still blown away that I am two hours from train away from poland, that has its own language, based in a totally different language family from german, and in many cases its own alphabet 08:30 <@rattle> At some point this year, I'm actually going to take a real vacation.. Something I basically never do... One of the things I'm thinking about is going to Budapest. I think it would be interesting to visit the source of the majority of my genetic makeup. 08:30 <@rattle> I know _nothing_ about Hungary or Hungarian culture. Zip. Zero. But, I'm half that.. 08:31 < aestetix> Have you been to eastern europe or the russian countries before? 08:32 < aestetix> I don't know how China is, but once you get east of berlin, the culture is basically unrecognizable to an American 08:32 -!- TheDukh [~thedukh@2607:fcc8:ac80:d900:449:dc35:afe8:ccc7] has joined #se2600 08:33 < aestetix> .... also to anyone who lived in those countries before 1939, but that's another story ;) 08:56 <@rattle> Nope. Before the trial started we were sitting in the jury room and someone asked what Pokemon Go is. I explained it. With that one of the jurors installed the app on their phone only to discover a Pokemon sitting in the middle of the jury room table. I'm not kidding. I saw it on their phone with my own eyes. They managed to capture it with a Pokeball. That is so not right. 18:29 < xray1> I suspect the first time you install the app it puts a Pokemon at your location which happened to be the jury room. 18:31 <@opticron> yes 20:09 -!- xray1 [~xray@c-73-43-4-206.hsd1.ga.comcast.net] has quit [Quit: Leaving.] 21:12 < aestetix> wow 21:13 < aestetix> someone actually went to jury duty? 21:23 -!- rattle [345709ef@tor/regular/rattle] has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds] 21:45 -!- sdodson [sdodson@nat/redhat/x-ulbqrjkhrkshoovo] has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds] 21:50 -!- sdodson [sdodson@nat/redhat/x-wtdvumntdxgvygbc] has joined #se2600 21:50 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o sdodson] by ChanServ 22:40 -!- rattle [17186c13@tor/regular/rattle] has joined #se2600 22:40 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o rattle] by ChanServ 23:17 -!- rattle [17186c13@tor/regular/rattle] has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds] 23:22 -!- rattle [17186c13@tor/regular/rattle] has joined #se2600 23:22 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o rattle] by ChanServ 23:49 -!- rattle [17186c13@tor/regular/rattle] has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds] --- Log closed Wed Jul 13 00:00:05 2016
