I swear. 08:29 <@Dolemite> open a ticket every time it goes down 08:29 <@Dolemite> you should have a script written to do that by now. lol 08:32 <@Evilpig> 4 times today since midnight, at least 08:34 < xray> Residential or commercial? 08:35 <@Evilpig> business 08:35 < xray> I have business comcast and they are usually very responsive to trouble tickets. 08:36 < xray> How long is it out when it goes down? 08:37 < _NSAKEY> s/open a ticket/declare jihad/ 08:37 < xray> LoL 08:37 <@Evilpig> couple minutes. 08:37 < xray> When I had DSL I had to go nuts on them to get any support at all. I finally fired them. 08:38 < xray> The ILEC was to blame but the vendors would just point fingers at each other while I remained down. 08:39 < xray> First tier tech support had all the technical expertise of a clam. 08:40 <@oddball> First tier is there to filter out the "have you tried turning it off and on again?" issues. 08:42 < xray> Yeah but getting past them when you've already done all that is like running a gauntlet. I really don't have time to sit on the phone for two hours because the tech doesn't know what DNS and tracert are. 08:42 < _NSAKEY> xray: That's why you just scream "ESCALATE ME" over them until they submit. 08:43 < _NSAKEY> About 30 seconds of that will make even the dumbest level 1 tech break. 08:44 < xray> You would be surprised. I literally would scream at them and it would have no effect. It always took two hours to get escalated and then less than 10 minutes talking to an engineer to get it fixed. 08:44 < xray> I always called in with the same problem but even though all my past calls were escalated they wouldn't do it without two hours of screaming. Hence, the firing part. 08:45 < _NSAKEY> You just have to figure out which string of words the third world tech support drones understand. 08:45 < _NSAKEY> With Comcast, saying escalate triggers the appropriate response. You don't even have to be rude. 08:45 < _NSAKEY> You can say it in any other way in English, and they don't get it. 08:45 < xray> Now I have Comcast commercial and when I call I get someone who actually knows what they are doing. 08:45 < _NSAKEY> But "escalate" is the magic word to make Comcast Residential get out of your way. 08:47 <@oddball> xray: You've clearly had better response with Comcast Business than I have. 08:48 <@oddball> Those are the asshats who charged me $100 for a service call for their issue after I was down for 3 days, and then, instead of reversing the charge, managed to charge my account another $100. 08:49 < _NSAKEY> oddball: And these people don't know you have guns? 08:49 < xray> I suspect that some support offices are better than others. 08:49 <@oddball> _NSAKEY: It's evidence that gun owners aren't nearly as violent as the anti-gun folks would have you believe. 08:49 < xray> I vaguely remember there being and email or twitter account that got immediate results if you posted a complaint. I will have to look for it. 08:51 <@oddball> Oh, and someone called me after that charge reversal was screwed up and told me that there was a $100 credit on my account. 08:52 < xray> I would think numbers in red on the screen would be really obvious. 08:52 < xray> Apparently not. 08:53 <@oddball> I told the guy that actually looked at my account and said "well, that's not right. Hold on. There you go." that he was apparently a rare employee, because he was competent. 08:53 < xray> Its nice when your run across tech support like that. 08:54 < xray> I called customer service once because the tech support phone system was down and I couldn't find an out of band method of letting them know. 08:54 < xray> The customer support rep asked why I was calling tech support and when I told him he fixed the technical problem for me. 08:55 < xray> I was so shocked I didn't know what to say. 08:55 < xray> After fighting with DSL tech support to then have a customer support for business cable fix the problem. 08:56 < xray> What a huge difference in companies. 08:57 < xray> We had a tree take out everything on the pole in the front yard on Friday. Comcast business had me up that weekend and fixed all my neighbors residential connections while he was at it. 08:58 < xray> Comcast residential tech support here is legendarily bad. 09:01 <@oddball> Oh, that 3 day outage I had? At one point, the only reason I got tech support was because I called billing to cancel my account on the basis that they were unable/unwilling to provide me service. 09:01 <@Evilpig> s/residential\ // 09:10 -!- TheDukh [~thedukh@2607:fcc8:ac80:d900:94b7:3062:782b:b8db] has joined #se2600 09:51 -!- jb7od_ is now known as jb7od 09:53 <@jb7od> I've actually been pretty lucky with vendors as far as talking to them in such a way as to get floated up a level.
