I'm currently using svga cable. 14:17 <@Dagmar> Not really. 14:18 <@Dagmar> It's technically a better connection because it could be a purely digital connection, but in practice the signal loss of a short (6ft or less) cable is so small you'll be challenged to notice a differnece. 14:19 <@Dagmar> EDID communications for the computer to query the display for it's capabilities work over both VGA and DVI. 14:27 < eryc> i recorded myself dancing with cycorder 14:27 < eryc> between the slow framerate and my retarded antics ive decided i need a lot of improvement 14:35 -!- Guest54722 is now known as rattleX 14:38 <@sdodson> As always, ask for an opinion on the internet get wildly different opinions. Some people tell me DVI is a must for any monitor over 19" 14:39 <@opticron> it may also depend on the quality of the monitor's drive circuitry 14:41 <@Dagmar> sdodson: That sounds more like salesperson advice to me. "If they're spending enough money to buy a 22" monitor, we can probably get them to buy our overpriced DVI cable too since the monitor only comes with a VGA cable." 14:42 <@Dagmar> I've got a 24" which had both cables connected initially (yes, I was pushing a button to sort of swap displays) and I could not tell any difference in image quality between the two modes 14:45 -!- emwav [n=emwav@cpe-069-134-238-189.nc.res.rr.com] has quit ["Leaving"] 14:49 <@sdodson> It looks like single link dvi is capable of pushing 2.75megapixels, 1920x1200 is 2.3mpixel. I wonder what the effective bandwidth of svga cable is. 14:51 <@sdodson> I don't think buying a $200 monitor puts one into the market segment who will spend gratuitously on monster cables and shit. 14:53 <@sdodson> http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3948467&CatId=4464 is good for some lols though, the cable comes in a very nice wood box. 14:53 <@Dagmar> Something's wrong there 14:54 <@Dagmar> Oh I see. They have it marked down to a non-ludicrous price 14:55 <@sdodson> It's awesome that in their photos one of the ends is coming apart. 14:56 <@opticron> it's plainly visible in 4 of those pics 14:56 <@sdodson> Maybe I'll borrow a cable and see if there's a noticable difference. The only thing that I really want is something that keeps me from having to hit the autoadjust button when switching between win7 and fedora 14:58 <@Dagmar> You'll probably just need to set them to the same refresh rate (and possibly dot clocks) 14:58 <@sdodson> nouveau isn't giving me the same refresh rate that windows is 15:15 -!- coil_ [i=platypus@unaffiliated/coil] has quit [Read error: 60 (Operation timed out)] 15:16 -!- coil [i=platypus@unaffiliated/coil] has joined #se2600 15:16 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o coil] by ChanServ 16:32 < eryc> heh 16:32 < eryc> funny pics 16:32 < eryc> wtf is nouveau 16:32 < eryc> and 16:32 < eryc> WHY IS THE INTERWEB SO BORING ON SUNDAY 16:35 -!- hobbes615 [n=ryan@c-68-48-8-21.hsd1.dc.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 16:35 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o hobbes615] by ChanServ 16:58 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has joined #se2600 16:58 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o droops] by ChanServ 17:18 -!- sasquatc4 [i=sasquatc@c-76-25-180-64.hsd1.co.comcast.net] has quit [] 17:20 -!- sasquatc4 [i=sasquatc@c-76-25-180-64.hsd1.co.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 17:20 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o sasquatc4] by ChanServ 17:25 < eryc> any recommendations on hd video cameras? 17:26 < eryc> besides the flip 17:45 -!- ShadowHntr [n=sentinel@wikipedia/Shadowhntr] has joined #se2600 17:45 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o ShadowHntr] by ChanServ 17:46 <@sdodson> eryc: iphone iphone iphone 17:53 <@ShadowHntr> sup dodson 17:55 <@sdodson> ShadowHntr: learning ubuntu to help a friend out 17:55 <@ShadowHntr> cool 17:56 <@ShadowHntr> virtualbox is great for that =) 17:56 <@sdodson> ShadowHntr: Sure, but kvm is better. 17:56 <@ShadowHntr> yeah whatever 17:57 <@sdodson> and don't give me no jibba jabba about solaris zones or whatever nonsense that antiquated relic uses. 17:57 <@sdodson> :) :):): :) 17:57 <@ShadowHntr> wow 17:58 <@ShadowHntr> you're the second person to make me realize why i take anxiety meds :P 17:58 <@ShadowHntr> ;) 17:59 <@sdodson> i've never taken meds but i should 18:11 -!- Peaches1984 [n=Peaches1@bna-69-171-173-51.evdo.leapwireless.net] has quit [Read error: 60 (Operation timed out)] 18:13 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has quit [] 18:13 -!- ShadowHntr [n=sentinel@wikipedia/Shadowhntr] has quit ["Lost terminal"] 18:14 -!- ShadowHntr [n=sentinel@wikipedia/Shadowhntr] has joined #se2600 18:14 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o ShadowHntr] by ChanServ 18:17 -!- ShadowHntr [n=sentinel@wikipedia/Shadowhntr] has quit [Client Quit] 19:09 -!- hobbes615` [n=ryan@c-68-48-8-21.hsd1.dc.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 19:20 -!- hobbes615 [n=ryan@c-68-48-8-21.hsd1.dc.comcast.net] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)] 19:32 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has joined #se2600 19:32 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o droops] by ChanServ 19:33 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has quit [Client Quit] 19:42 -!- ShadowHntr [n=sentinel@c-69-137-73-141.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 19:42 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o ShadowHntr] by ChanServ 19:42 -!- ShadowHntr [n=sentinel@wikipedia/Shadowhntr] has left #se2600 [] 19:42 -!- ShadowHntr [n=sentinel@wikipedia/Shadowhntr] has joined #se2600 19:42 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o ShadowHntr] by ChanServ 20:16 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has joined #se2600 20:16 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o droops] by ChanServ 20:20 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has quit [Client Quit] 21:07 -!- Peaches1984 [i=gold@c-69-137-80-31.hsd1.tn.comcast.net] has joined #se2600 21:11 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has joined #se2600 21:11 -!- mode/#se2600 [+o droops] by ChanServ 21:51 -!- droops [n=erickson@74.193.239.242] has quit [] 22:16 <@sdodson> Interesting scheduling. If I ask dnet to use one cruncher it cycles through the 3 cores.
